Riverside Police Officer Ryan Bonaminio, a four-year veteran of the department and a United States Army Veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, was shot and killed following a traffic stop near Fairmont Park.

The incident began at approximately 9:45pm on Sunday November 7, when police received a call about a hit-and-run accident at the 60 Freeway and Market Street. Officer Bonaminio was on routine patrol when he attempted to stop the truck to question the driver about the incident.  The trucker initially refused to stop, but eventually pulled over in front of nearby Fairmont Park.  He got out of the vehicle and fled on foot with Bonaminio in pursuit on foot.  The two engaged in a gunfight and Bonaminio was hit at least once. When additional officers arrived on scene, they found Bonaminio on the ground with a gunshot injury.

Officer Bonaminio was transported by paramedics to Riverside Community Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

At this writing, the suspect has not been apprehended.
