Officer Phillip S. Riley was shot and killed on Monday, October 25, 1971, by a grand theft auto suspect. He was a member of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Venice Division.

Phil Riley was one of my training officers when I was a rookie Venice Division patrol officer in 1970. Phil was a soft spoken wonderful guy that loved his job. I was on vacation out of state when this tragic event occurred and was shocked and saddened to the core when I heard the news. I will always remember him.
