Jesse E. Farr

On April 9, 1925, Officer Farr sustained fatal injuries in a hit-and-run traffic accident caused by a DUI driver.

Lemoyne A. Hazard

On January 11, 1925 Dep. Lemoyne A. Hazard, along with fellow Dep. W. Rathjen and Indian Agent R. parrett responded to the Indian camp near Laws, California to investigate a complaint of spousal abuse. The deputies and agent Parrett were confronted on their arrival by suspect Charlie Jackson who was armed with a shotgun. A shoot-out ensued, with Hazard, Parrett and Jackson all being wounded. Jackson, still standing, walked over to Deputy Hazard who was lying on the ground and crushed his skull with the butt of his shotgun. Jackson was arrested, convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to San Quentin Prison.

William W. Wiles

Special Officer W. “Bud” Wiles died December 19, 1924 after being shot near Woody investigating an illegal still. He was a veteran officer assigned to the Prohibition Squad of the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.
