Officer French observed the suspect, who had been drinking all day, creating a disturbance in a pool hall. French told the suspect to quiet down and a fight developed. French and other officers arrested the suspect. At the jail, the suspect apologized and asked to be allowed to go home and go to bed. He was released. The suspect went home and armed himself with a double barrel shotgun. He then walked to the business district and locating French, sneaked up on him and shot him twice in the back with the shotgun. The suspect fled the area.
