CALIFORNIA PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL FOUNDATION
JOHN F. DUFFY SCHOLARSHIP/GRANT PROGRAM


Dependents of California peace officers who have died in the line of duty are eligible to receive annual scholarships from the California Peace Officers’ Memorial Foundation.

“The Memorial Foundation is committed to assisting families of those officers by providing educational opportunities in fields ranging from education to science to law enforcement,” stated Mark Nichols, president of the California Peace Officers’ Memorial Foundation.

Donations from member law enforcement associations and corporate sponsors fund the John F. Duffy Scholarship program. Scholarships continue to be awarded on an annual basis. All dependents of California peace officers that have died in the line of duty, regardless of how long ago, are eligible. Approval of applications will not be based upon sex, age, race, creed, national origin, or religious preference, or restricted based upon the applicants’ field of endeavor. The criteria to be used in granting scholarships may include; academic achievement, financial need, school activities, and community service.

Award Prerequisites:

A.

Scholarship recipient must be a survivor of a peace officer killed in the line of duty and enrolled on the California memorial monument.  Eligible survivors are:

1.            Spouse
2.            Children
3.            Stepchildren or adopted children

B.

Students must provide proof of enrollment for at least the fall semester of the forthcoming school year.

C.

Students must carry at least six (6) units per quarter or eight (8) units per semester at a California post secondary institution accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (W.A.S.C.), or at an out-of-state post secondary institution with equivalent accreditation.

D.

Students must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5.

E.

Scholarship funds shall be spent for educational needs and recipients shall return a signed ‘Acceptance of Terms and Conditions’ statement to the CPOMF administrative office.

F.

Individuals may apply for a total of eight (8) scholarship awards.

Awards 18 scholarships for 2007-2008

The California Peace Officers' Memorial Foundation awarded 18 monetary grants for the 2007-2008 school year to families of officers killed in the line of duty.  This annual educational assistance is awarded to surviving children and spouses of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.

Dependents of California officers who have died in the line-of-duty, regardless of how long ago, are eligible for the scholarships. Applications are not based on sex, age, race, creed, national origin or religious preference, or restricted based upon the applicant's field of endeavor.
